1. WELCOME TO THE MAY 2008 EDITION OF TALKING-TO-ANIMALS

Hello dear readers and friends!  It seems that we were just talking about New Year's and here we are
anticipating Memorial Day!   We have close friends in Australia and they lament the passage of
time these days. At least we are looking forward to summer; because they are south of the equator,
they are bundling up for winter which is coming very soon for them. We went to visit them three years
ago in February and it was a real treat because we were able to enjoy their summer fruits!

This issue has my monthly message, 'A Story From My Files', which I know is a favorite of most of
my readers, and a section called, " So You Think You Know Animals!" I promise it will humble you!
A very special book that I read from page to page, and my article, "Encountering and Observing
Animals Awakens The Spirituality We All Share"
I hope you enjoy this month's newsletter!
Until next month, Have a most beautiful May!

Blessings,

Charlene

2.
ENCOUNTERING AND OBSERVING ANIMALS AWAKENS THE SPIRITUALITY WE ALL SHARE

As the days lengthen its time to hang up our jackets and heavy sweaters as most of us are more than
anxious to spend more time outside. No matter how many springs or summers you have experienced,
there is always a magical feel to this time of year. As we spend more time outside, we have the opportunity
to quietly observe the role of Mother Nature and her promises to renew the life around us.

Sadly, many of our local birds of prey have quietly vanished, thanks to the building of new homes and roads.
No matter what the builders promise, native habitat always loses out to big bucks. Fortunately for the
environment, some are very hardy and do manage in spite of their terrain being changed. I don't consider
crows to be birds of prey, but nothing interferes or disrupts their daily activities. They are a very tenacious species.

We have had at least one family of sparrows that take up residence in our entryway each spring. Poor babies!
They don't seem to realize or care that the geraniums in the wall planters are artificial--it works for them year after
year. We have gone from 4 light blue eggs to four very hungry babies with big yellow mouths, waiting for their next
meal from mom. Unfortunately we can't get very close as the mother bird flees the nest as soon as she sees or
hears us.

In our back yard, we have two very large hanging Boston ferns that have several nests in them. We can watch
them from the inside without scaring them so much. It always surprises me how quickly birds grow. In a matter of
a couple of weeks, they are gone and a new mother or perhaps the same mother is laying eggs again. I would
have missed this changing of bird families had I not been observant. It has been most interesting.

When I spend time outside and sit quietly, I see mockingbirds, blue jays and sometimes even roadrunners.
If I move, they flee. I have learned that by sitting and observing, even if I think I am not seeing anything much,
I am always pleasantly surprised by what is revealed to me.The more I watch, the more I learn!   We are literally
crawling with lizards for some reason. If we leave a door open, we always find one inside. Most have been lucky
enough to escape our cat.

We are going  up to the Sierras in two weeks. I love the Sierras! For me, it is my favorite place for spiritual renewal.
We stay in some rustic cabins along a picturesque creek. We take all three dogs with us and they totally love
the different smells. Unfortunately I am still healing from my foot/ankle surgery from last summer, so I won't be
able to be as active as I would like to be. I plan on sitting on the porch of the cabin, watch the wildlife around
me and write in my journal and read. I am sure that after sitting for most of the week, I will know intimate details
about the birds, squirrels and other species.

I may not be able to watch their entire life cycle, but I do know that I will leave with a deeper respect and
appreciation of the animals I encounter and observe.

I trust you feel as I do.

Charlene

PS: we will take lots of peanuts in the shell for the blue jays and squirrels. It is heaven on earth to watch them
scamper around the porch to get them. By the end of the week, we usually even have blue jays and squirrels
that will eat out of our hands!

3.  A STORY FROM MY FILES - LINDY'S LOVE SHINES ON

I always appreciate your e-mail updates so I can hear about your pet's progress. I really enjoy my work
and my clients and their pets. Sometimes my work is sad, especially when working with a sick or old
pet who is getting ready to transition. The love that develops between people and their pets always
touches my heart and I know that it touches many of you readers as well. This is a story with some
sadness, but also a wonderful ending!

I was contacted by Lindy's owner Diana C had asked me to contact her Greyhound Lindy who had
recently passed. Lindy came through Greyhound Rescue to Diana and they had shared a wonderful
life together for 9 years. Can you imagine what a change it was for Lindy to go from being a dog whose
sole purpose was to race and make money? Greyhounds, once they have served out their usefulness
come to some very sad and cruel endings. Lindy was indeed one of the lucky ones who was rescued
by Greyhound Rescue. When I contacted Lindy's spirit she told me that she would help Diana find her
next Greyhound if that is what her owner wanted. I received this e-mail from Lindy's owner and I wanted
to share it with you:

From: Diana

Subject: Happy news

Charlene,

A few months ago you communicated with my deceased greyhound, Lindy.  I must tell you again
what a comfort it was, and still is, to hear her thoughts.  You also shared a bit about what my next
greyhound might be like, and that Lindy would have a hand in it (or paw!).  The happy news is that
I am finally ready to adopt again, and have found a beautiful girl named Jenny.  She is a red/fawn
brindle, quite petite, and a bit of a character!  She will be coming to her forever home on March 30th.

Thank you for your help.  I've attached a photo of her.  I will be taking lots of pictures when she
arrives!

--------------------------------

So much of our world, in spite of technology remains a mystery in that we will never know or
understand all the forces that work in our behalf. I really prefer it that way. My work with animals
has made me realize that their are other forms of intelligence and energy working in our behalf
on a daily basis. I like to leave myself open to all the magical possibilities in our world and other
dimensions. Lindy has reminded me again of all those possibilities.

Good girl, Lindy!!!

Animal Communication 101 Workshop News -
How I Became An Animal Communicator

Can you talk to the animals? As a young girl, Hugh Lofting's book Doctor Doolittle was a favorite of mine.
Doctor Doolittle had the uncanny ability to talk to any animal. I will always remember the animal called
The Pushmipullyou, a two headed animal. That story was magical for me as I was quite convinced that
some people must have that ability, although no one I knew did.

Well, time flies and after two children and a 20 year career as a speech therapist and special education
teacher, it was time for an early retirement and a chance to look at another line of work. My wonderful
Bearded Collie Desmond has been a powerful teacher and guide for me since he came into my life. He
literally change my life and allowed me to entertain the idea that it really was possible to talk to animals.
My first five day class Animal Communication class with Carol Gurney was unlike any other class I had
ever taken. It completely changed my perception and relationship with all animals.

As a speech therapist my training was very clinical or left brained. Although I did have flashes of intuition,
I was not really "tuned" into them.  After my first workshop with Carol, I never looked at animals in quite
the same way. I soon came to the conclusion that we are all one in mind and spirit and from one source.

I decided to combine my skills as a teacher and being a successful animal communicator for 9 years into
allowing others to share in this experience. Teaching is teaching! Whether it is children or adults, the
principles are the same. I would like you to expand and enrich your life and the life that you share with
animals. When I read the replies from my students when I read their work with other students animals,
it helps remind me of the richness of the language of animals, their spirituality and why they share the planet
with us. We have student's dogs, cats, horses, several pigs who were very interesting and even a Llama!

Please take a minute to take a look at my animal communication course. I have a payment plan if that makes
it easier for you and you don't have to be part of the live classes if your schedule does not permit, you
can listen to the classes and do the homework at your own pace. Trust me, you will be very grateful to
really learn what all animals have to say.

Our upcoming live Animal Communication 101 Workshop on May 28th. The workshop has begun filling
up and I'm really looking forward to working with each one of you.  We have some wonderful bonuses
(some of them early registration only) included for our students including:  A seminar with a pet nutritionalist
Susan Davis "
Stop Endless Scratching and Itching--How to Use Holistic Care to Help Your Pet's Allergies"

Here is a testimonial from one of the people who recently completed the training:

"

powerful and inspiring.  Thank you for sharing your passion through your teaching.

In love and blessings, T"

5.  AN UNUSUAL CONSULTATION REQUEST

Animal communication work, as most of you know, is done telepathically and most often the work that I do
is done in a special, spiritual place that I work from at home.  Here is a request I recently received from a
long time client.

"Hello Charlene,

I hope this e-mail finds you doing well.  We have worked together in
the past with my late Cairn Terriers (Fritter, Pretzels, etc.) and
three years ago with our newly rescued sweetheart, Bullet, a
 pekingese-pomeranian mix.  He's now almost 4!

Presently, the three of us, (me, husband, and Bullet) have been living
in Amman, Jordan since January where I am a Fulbright Professor
teaching at the University of Jordan until the end of June.  I would
really like to work out a consultation with you for Bullet as I have
several things I really want to communicate to him and to hear back
 from him.

The only drawback is that I am limited to e-mail as we do not have a
phone and the mail service is basically non-existent for us.  Some
days this feels like a Peace Corps assignment rather than an academic
 experience.

Anyway, if you can work with me via e-mail in terms of my sending
questions, an updated photo of Bullet, and giving you more background
info about our surroundings here, when we will be going home, and what
Bullet can expect in the coming weeks, and don't mind sending me your
results via e-mail then this would be great.

 Thanks - J"

6. A Survey on Mobile Veterinarians - Can you help

A very dear friend of mine asked if I could help her son do a survey about mobile veterinarians.  He lives in the
Portland area and his vet is thinking about purchasing a mobile set up - apparently very expensive.  It would be
helpful if they knew how pet owners felt about this before their purchase and I said I would be happy to ask
you if you wouldn't mind taking a short survey.

If you'd like to help, click HERE.

6.  SO YOU THINK YOU KNOW A LOT ABOUT ANIMALS!

Here are some pretty amazing, little known (at least by me) facts about animals:

The most numerous bird specie is the red-billed quelea of South Africa. There a
re an estimated 100 trillion of them.

A giraffe can clean its ears with its 20 inch tongue.

A group of geese is called a gaggle--a group of geese in the air is a skein.

A crocodile's tongue is attached to the roof of its mouth and cannot move it.

Domestic cats purr at about 26 cycles per second, the same frequency as an
idling diesel engine.

There are more than 150 million sheep in Australia, a nation of 17 million people.

NEW IN THE MARKETPLACE

In my newsletters as well as during my consultations and workshops I often recommend products,
books and services.  I am in the process of putting a marketplace on my site that will have
many of the things that I personally use and that I recommend so that you don't have to
spend time searching for them.  My marketplace also has all of my workshops, eBooks and
recordings for purchase (with more being added monthly).

I invite you to visit my marketplace to see what new things there are and, if you have
something you think would be perfect to add to my marketplace, please let me know by
emailing me at Charlene@talk-to-animals.com

7.  FROM THE BOOKSHELF - TELL ME WHERE IT HURTS

Over the years, some of my favorite reads about pets, people and vets have been the books of
James Herriot. He had a way of weaving the hearts of people and their animals together into a
tapestry of love, compassion, honesty and humor.

To be honest with you, I have not found until recently, quite that mixture in a veterinarian/author.
While browsing in our local Borders, I was drawn to a book with a picture of one of the most dispirited
Boston Terriers on the cover I have ever seen! As I started thumbing through it, I knew it was a "must read."

Written by Dr. Nick Trout, DVM who is a practicing veterinary surgeon at the preminent Angell Animal
Medical Center in Boston, he writes about 24 hours in his life as a practicing surgeon.

What was immediately apparent before I finished the first chapter was how much veterinary medicine
has changed since the days of Herriot's books, and yet in so many ways still has the same theme of
heart and soul to it in the relationships between pets and their people.Times may have changed, but
people love animals as much today as they did 30-40 years ago.

To recap, the name of the book is: Tell Me Where It Hurts by Dr. Nick Trout, DVM. I guarantee that
you'll love reading it just like I did.

8.
THE TAIL END

In closing, I would like you to take a moment and think about what is going on in our world right now.
In the last week, there have been tornadoes, fires and flooding in our own country as well as the horrific
earthquake in China. Relief agencies are really scrambling to meet the overwhelming needs of people
who are without homes or food. The animals are faring much worse. If you would like to help on an
international or national level, these are agencies that are legitimate in their efforts:

National: ASPCA
Noah's Wish they are excellent for immediate aid in stricken areas

Peace and blessings to all,

Charlene

==========================================================================

Mission Statement:

"I feel that my primary role as an animal communicator is to speak the truth for the animals.
By speaking their truth I am able to share with their owners their unique perspectives and spiritual
philosophies. The special bond that companion animals share with their owners is one that is built
on love and trust. Through this special relationship both owners and their animals have an opportunity
to experience love, trust and mutual understanding. It is the key to all relationships we develop with
our pets. As we become more sensitive to our pets, we learn that we are all One, created by the
same Divine spirit. Our ultimate goal is to live in harmony and joy with the animals we love and cherish."

Charlene
