1. WELCOME TO THE FEBRUARY 2008 EDITION OF TALKING-TO-ANIMALS
Hello Dear Readers and Welcome to the February edition of Talking-To-Animals,
Although February is a short month, I have much to share with you! February is the month to celebrate
and share our love with all-both human and animal friends. The theme of love is interwoven
throughout this month's newsletter. In the section, STORIES FROM MY FILES, Doreen H.
opens her heart to two stray dogs at a very difficult time in her life. In 'GIVE YOURSELF A HEART
HUG1" Cynde Van Vleet, a certified T Touch practitioner, shares a terrific T Touch hug that we can
give to ourselves anytime.
So grab a cup of tea or coffee, curl up and take a minute out to enjoy this month's newsletter!

2. FEATURED ARTICLE - WHAT'S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT?
What's Love Got To Do With It? This is a title to a popular song Tina Turner sang in the '70's. Yes, what
does love got to do with our daily lives and interactions? A life that has a foundation based in love is
infinitely richer than one based on the idea of "what's in it for me?"
Sadly, in today's world that attitude seems to prevail more and more in our society. Many people are
looking for a pay-off for any deeds or act that they do. I sometimes wonder the legacy is that we are
leaving the children of today and tomorrow regarding what is true and really important in our lives.
I feel that today, more than ever, we need to surround ourselves with love and have love in our hearts and
thoughts most of our day. A life based in love may not make you financially well off, but I do know that a
life that is love-based is infinitely more satisfying and rewarding.
Enter our wonderful pets! Every week I receive many e-mails and letters from clients and other people whose
lives have been touched and changed by the love of an animal, sometimes in strange and miraculous ways.
The longer I do my work with animals and their people, the more I am humbled by their wisdom and eternal
bond with us.
They are some of our most powerful teachers and most people who own pets say their lives were magically
changed for the better when they acquired their first pet. Whether you were a small child or a senior citizen,
we are all in agreement that you never forget that soft fur, wagging tail or eyes filled with love. To me, it's
a lot like first love; sweet and rich beyond our wildest dreams. They comfort us, makes us laugh and act silly,
always communicating in a loving way that we are just about the finest thing on earth.
People who don't have pets many times don't "get" why we animal lovers are so nutsy about our pets.
They don't understand why we have to race home to feed the cats or let the dog out. Many of you (I know
for a fact), do without some things to take care of your pet's needs. I truly believe that we become better
souls by sharing our life and love with an animal.
So to answer the question, What's Love Got To Do With It?
The answer lies in a single word: EVERYTHING! Love is the timeless bond that we share with our
wonderful pets. The love just goes on and on, without constraints. Love has no time line or expiration date--
love is truly eternal.

3. A STORY FROM MY FILES - RUSTY
This is a pretty amazing story in and of itself, but it shows again how a loving heart can make such a
difference. Doreen is a client I worked with some years ago. She contacted me to help her find her dog,
Jed who was missing while she and Jed were visiting a friend of hers. Although I was able to contact
Jed and find out he was still alive, Doreen never found him. I contacted him a couple more times and
learned that he was living with a man and woman. He was content and well cared for, but still thought
of Doreen and the life they had shared.
During Doreen's search for Jed, she came upon two stray dogs that needed help and possibly a home
of their own. It was obvious to Doreen that both had been on their own for some time. Now, some people
would have wished them well and proceeded in looking for their own lost dog, but not Doreen! She opened
her home and her heart to both dogs, which I think speaks well of Doreen's character at a most stressful
time. She never forgot Jed but these new dogs helped ease the pain of her loss and brought her much
needed love again.
Doreen contacted me recently asking for my help as Rusty, one of the adopted dogs, was having some
problems, mainly forgetting to go outside to relieve himself and becoming somewhat disoriented, a problem
common to older pets. I made some suggestions, including a check-up with her vet.
I received this update from Doreen:
Charlene, I just wanted to let you know that Rusty is doing tremendously better. He still occasionally poops
in the house but maybe only a couple times a week compared to couple times a day!!! And peeing in the
house is even less often....like maybe 2-3 times since we talked. So I am very pleased!! He also does
seem to be more active around the house and less disoriented when we are in the woods. So I guess
your suggestions made everybody happy!!! I also bought a joint supplement that was on sale when I
bought the cholidin. I am giving it to both my dogs because I think Sami Jo is probably about 6-7 years
old so she is probably at the age where this could be helpful.
Just wanted to update you and thank you for your help!!!!
Doreen & Rusty
This story has two underlying themes for you. The beautiful lesson of Doreen and her compassion for the two
stray dogs she found while looking for her own pet. The second point being that many times, especially with
older pets, a simple change or addition of a medication can literally turn their lives around and give you much
more additional quality time together. For cognitive changes and some behavioral changes in older pets, Anypril
or Cholodin can make a huge difference in their lives as well as yours. If you notice these types of changes
in your pet, by all means schedule a time to talk to your veterinarian and ask about supplementation. I've
recently had personal experience on what a difference this can make in a pet's quality of life and I've shared my
own experience at the end of the newsletter.

4. From the students - My Animal Communication eWorkshop News
Most of you have heard about the Animal Communication 101 eWorkshop I've been teaching for the past
5 weeks, and I am having so much fun working with such an incredible group of students, that I just
had to share some of our experiences in the workshop thus far. Before I get to the good stuff, I have
to say that this is the first time I've taught my workshop online and, although I knew that the students
would be receiving the same information students in my live workshop got, I was not sure what it
would be like to teach students who were not right in front of me.
My workshop is normally a 1 day workshop and students often travel some distance to attend. We
structured the eWorkshop to cover a 5 week period, so our class has had a longer time to
Here is a testimonial from one of the people who recently completed the training:
"Hi Charlene, ....................I have found your insights, clarity, confidence and strong intention to be very
powerful and inspiring. Thank you for sharing your passion through your teaching.
In love and blessings, T"

5. WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF THAT ANIMAL SAYING?
From time to time, I like to add new or unusual items to the newsletter. I received a little book from a friend,
entitled "It's Raining Cats and Dogs," by Jackie Franza with illustrations by Steve Gray. The book explains
the meanings and origins of animal expressions that we use every day. Two examples: 'In a Pig's Eye'.
Meaning: never, or it's a lie. Origin: One theory suggests that pig's eye rhymes with lie, so, this expression
is a cryptic way of saying the person is a liar.
Another example is 'As The Crow Flies'. Meaning: in as straight and direct path as possible. Origin: This
phrase is straightforward: a crow in flight will take the most direct route and wouldn't need to traverse around
streams, hills and lakes. The earliest recorded version of this phrase appeared in 1800, used then as "the
crow's road."
A most enjoyable and entertaining book!

6. GIVE YOURSELF A HEART HUG!
As much as well love our pets, it's important to love ourselves too. Their message to us is that they
want us to love ourselves as much as we love them. Here is a simple, effective Heart Hug to give
yourself. Cindy Van Vleet, a certified T Touch practitioner had this in her monthly newsletter and kindly
gave me permission to share it with you. Cindy will also be my special guest on the last lesson in my
very popular e-course on beginning animal communication. It will soon be in CD format and you may
buy it from my website by visiting Charlene's Marketplace.
GIVE YOURSELF A HEART HUG!
TT! Place one hand on top of the other with palms at the center of your chest at the level of your heart.
Visualize the face of a clock on your chest under your hands, with six o'clock at the bottom of the
circle, closest to the ground.
TT! Beginning at six o'clock, inhale and exhale while slowly and gently pushing the skin in a circle and
a quarter, with a consistent rhythm, stopping at 9 o'clock.
TT! At 9 o'clock take another deep breath in and out with your hands remaining quietly at the 9 o'clock
position.
TT! Repeat this circle 3 times slowly.
Then visualize a place, person or animal or event that makes you feel wonderful and hold this thought
while repeating the Heart Hug several times.
BTW, TT means TTouch.

7. FROM THE BOOKSHELF - "MEDICINE CARDS"
"Medicine Cards" by Jamie Sams and David Carson. To understand the concept of "medicine," in the
American Indian way, one must define "medicine." The term medicine referred to in this book is
defined as anything that improves one connection to the Great Mystery and to all of life. As we know,
the Indians lived close to the earth and were very observant of the animals and looked upon them with
reverence and respect. My great-grandmother was a medicine woman in Oklahoma, therefore my interest
in these oracle cards stems from her. "Medicine Cards" comes with a book and a deck of 52 cards.
The animal on each card represents a personal power characteristic. For example, hawk represents
messenger, elk represents stamina etc. There is a detailed message for each animal and how the
animals in your card spread might be influential in your life. The power of each animal has been handed
down for many generations among the various Native American tribes who lived in close harmony with
the land and animals. Many people feel that it is again, another way to tap into our strengths as well as to
remind us of our deep connection to native animals and their wisdom. f you enjoy tarot cards, you might
enjoy these as another way of gaining self-knowledge.

8. THE TAIL END
A REMINDER ABOUT OBSERVING CHANGES IN OUR PETS
Some of you know my Beardie, Desmond, and how very much he is loved by all. Desi, as we call him,
just turned 13 in December. While he has enjoyed good health, I could see a noticeable change in him
in recent times. He was not as active and although I wrote it off to being older, I was a little concerned.
He was also becoming disoriented, going from room to room looking for me when I was actually in the
house. If I took him out for a walk, he might go 100-200 feet, stop and want to go back to the car, not
like him at all!
I have a wonderful vet who listens very carefully to whatever I tell him. It is a known fact that in our
breed that, as Beardies get older, their thyroid levels drop, and even a low normal will benefit from
supplementation of thyroid medication. I had Desi's thyroid tested and his thyroid levels did come
back as low normal. I began supplementing his diet with thyroid medicine, and with a tablet twice
daily, he is back to his old self with more awareness of who and what is going on around him. He is
enjoying his walks again and no longer looking frantically for me in the house.
It's been truly a blessing to have our old Desi back again, enjoying life more.
While I am not advocating thyroid medication for all pets who seem to be aging prematurely, it might
be helpful to have your pets thyroid checked along with his usual yearly blood panel.
In closing, I want to wish all of you a wonderful month, filled with love, happiness and an appreciation
of all the good things in your life, especially your wonderful pets.
Peace and blessings to all,
Charlene
PS: February is the beginning of kitten season. If you have a young male or female kitten around
6 months of age or older, please get them spayed or neutered ASAP! It would be the very best gift
to give to the cat population in America.

Mission Statement:
"I feel that my primary role as an animal communicator is to speak the truth for the animals.
By speaking their truth I am able to share with their owners their unique perspectives and spiritual
philosophies. The special bond that companion animals share with their owners is one that is built
on love and trust. Through this special relationship both owners and their animals have an opportunity
to experience love, trust and mutual understanding. It is the key to all relationships we develop with
our pets. As we become more sensitive to our pets, we learn that we are all One, created by the
same Divine spirit. Our ultimate goal is to live in harmony and joy with the animals we love and cherish."
