All animals are a treasure. We must treat them as we would rare jewels.

Giving Thanks to Our PetsWhen we share our hearts and homes with companion animals, we can add a whole new dimension and meaning to our lives. Within their being, lies the capacity to trust, to face fear, to heal and to love. Their love for us is endless and unconditional: they love us in our finest moments and in our darkest hours. They make no judgment of right or wrong. Their steady presence is always filled with trust and love. They are always in the present moment whatever they do, something most have forgotten to be in our multi-task oriented world. Our pets allow us to slow down and be our most genuine self. Our pets offer us an insight into a more basic reality of life and let us be in touch with nature and all of its mysteries. When we expand our awareness to the animals around us as they go about their daily existence, they help us put into perspective our own joys, sorrows, hopes and fears. Through their example of living and coexisting with other we are given the opportunity to be at peace with ourselves and our world. When we reflect upon all things great and small we see that all life forms are connected and that we are all truly one. From the simplest life form to the most complex, we all share the same spiritual path; from birth to death the journey is the same. The bonds and spiritual connections that we have with animals is almost as old as time itself. From the time man first brought animals into their homes, teepees, huts and igloos, a relationship based on love, need and trust was formed that endures today. Through the intertwining of our lives with companion animals, we are given the opportunity to experience their wisdom and many spiritual gifts and lessons. For many people a pet to care for gives richness and meaning to their life. They help us to fill the basic need of all humans; to love and be loved. Pets give us a way to express the best and highest aspects of humanity such as kindness, compassion, altruism and being of service to another being. They open us up to a higher consciousness of the mysteries of the universe, including birth and death showing us that death is a natural and normal part of the whole life process and not to be feared as an end. One animal said that death is like taking off a very tight, uncomfortable tie. All he could say was “Ahh, that feels better!”. Through the unconditional love and spiritual connection we have with our pets we are all able to really know a more honest, simpler meaning of happiness and harmony. Please put aside some time and just be with your special pet. More than a new toy, your pet wants your time. Just “being” with your pet in quiet solitude is the most intimate form of communication and the most precious gift you can give to your pet this holiday season or at any other time of the year. Thank you. |
